چکیده
Abstract Debris flows pose a significant hazard to communities in mountainous areas, and there is continued need for methods delineate zones associated with debris-flow inundation. In certain situations, such as scenarios following wildfire, where could be an abrupt increase the likelihood size of debris that necessitates rapid assessment, computational demands inundation models play role their utility. The inability efficiently determine downstream effects anticipated events remains critical gap our ability understand, mitigate, assess hazards. To better understand flows, we introduce computationally efficient, reduced-complexity model, which refer Progressive Debris-Flow routing model (ProDF). We calibrate ProDF against mapped from five watersheds near Montecito, CA, produced shortly after 2017 Thomas Fire. reproduced 70% deposits across 40 km 2 study area. While this focuses on series post-wildfire not limited simulating wildfire applied any scenario it possible estimate volume. However, given its reproduce Fire burn scar, modest run time simulation over area, results suggest may particularly promising assessment applications.

Estimation of flow velocity for a debris flow via the two-phase fluid model
The two-phase fluid model is applied in this study to calculate the steady velocity of a debris flow along a channel bed. By using the momentum equations of the solid and liquid phases in the debris flow together with an empirical formula to describe the interaction between two phases, the steady velocities of the solid and liquid phases are obtained theoretically. The comparison of those veloc...
متن کاملkinetic energy model of two-phase debris flow
a numerical model for two-phase debris flows is developed in this paper, on the basis of understanding of the physical characteristics of debris flows from field investigations and experiments. employing a moving coordinate, the kinetic energy equation of gravel particles in unit volume in debris flow is developed by considering the potential energy of the particles, energy from the liquid phas...
متن کاملinvestigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
A New Rapid Flood Inundation Model
In this study, we propose a new Rapid Flood Inundation Model (RFIM). The purpose of the RFIM is to generate predictions of water depth and flood extent using less computer resource than required by two-dimensional shallow water equation models (SWEMs). To be useful the RFIM must produce predictions that are comparable with those obtained from SWEMs. The model described here is an improvement on...
متن کاملA Two-phase Shallow Debris Flow Model with Energy Balance
This paper proposes a thin layer depth-averaged two-phase model provided by a dissipative energy balance to describe avalanches of solid-fluid mixtures. This model is derived from a 3D two-phase model based on the equations proposed by Jackson [R. Jackson, The Dynamics of Fluidized Particles, 2000] which takes into account the force of buoyancy and the forces of interaction between the solid an...
